Makaay gets Hat trick for Bayern victory

Bayern Munich kept its steady begining for this season as it crushed Bayer Leverkusen in the second round of matches. Roy Makaay scored three times and Bayern won, 5-2, on the road on Saturday. The Dutch striker has scored 15 goals in his past seven Bundesliga matches, and Bayern has won 11 consecutive league games dating to last season. Makaay has five goals in two matches this season.

Leverkusen, who humiliated Bayern 4-1 last season, were one goal down only three minutes into the game as Michael Ballack powered home a perfectly-placed shot in the corner of the net to open the scoring against his former side.

Makaay put Bayern 2-0 up eight minutes later but Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov netted a penalty in the 32nd minute, briefly bringing Leverkusen into the game.

Four minutes later Ali Karimi extended Bayern's lead to 3-1 and Makaay turned the screw, scoring twice within seven minutes in the second half. Bayer's Marko Babic got a late consolation eight minutes from time.

Bayern opened the season last week by beating Mönchengladbach, 3-0.
