Bayern Munich 0 - Hertha Berlin 0

Roy Makaay lined up, but his team dropped their first points of 2006 in a goalless draw at Hertha Berlin on Tuesday.

On the Olympic Stadium field, neither side were able to break the deadlock despite having numerous chances and both had to settle for a point.

The result will be welcomed by title-chasers Werder Bremen and Hamburg, who are both in action on Wednesday.

Hertha players Kevin Boateng and Yildiray Basturk were more than the equals of Sebastian Deisler and Michael Ballack. However Bayern had the first opportunity to score.

Argentine Martin Demichelis tested Gerhard Tremmel with a powerful header from Deisler's free-kick after 15 minutes, but the Berlin keeper blocked the ball.

Michael Ballack had a chance to put Bayern ahead when he reached Valerien Ismael's long punt out of defence and attempted to lob Tremmel, but sent the ball onto the roof of the net.

Arne Friedrich had a good chance for Berlin on the hour mark when he juggled the ball inside the Bayern area before striking venomously at goal where Kahn again was at full stretch to parry the ball wide.

Striker Paolo Guerrero took the place of the ineffective Roy Makaay and with his first touch had Tremmel scampering across his goal to dive onto the Peruvian's header.

Bayern Munich were getting back on top and another substitute Ali Karimi brushed the outside of the post with his shot from Claudio Pizarro's through ball as the game entered the final 20 minutes.

But the teams couldnt open the scorer, and the result ended 0 - 0.
