Makaay will stay at Bayern until 2008

Despite the bad news about not being called for the World Cup, Roy Makaay has extended his contract with his club Bayern Munich for one year until 2008 season.

It's a good time to remember that the Dutch striker joined Bayern in 2003 for a club record 19 million euros ($23.4m) from Deportivo la Coruna and his current deal was going to end in 2007.

About his feeling and the city, Makaay said: "I like it here and always said that I would like to stay longer,"

It was good to see him scoring last weekend. His double Sunday in a 2-2 draw at Mainz 05 brought his league season tally to 16 strikes.

What is Van Basten thinking?

Netherlands boss Marco van Basten released a 33-man list as a preview of his World Cup squad on Friday. And there was a big absence: Roy Makaay.

Roy Makaay has scored only six goals in 43 appearances for the Dutch side. This, along with a bad season in Bayern Munich, made him lose his spot in the squad earlier this season and is no longer considered as back up to first-choice forward Ruud van Nistelrooy.

In fact, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from Ajax gets a place in the squad for the first time.

Van Basten also ignored the claims of AC Milan midfielder Seedorf, despite a convincing season for the Italians in Serie A and the Champions League.

The Dutch squad gather on May 9 for a four-day training sessions in Noordwijk. The team will be trimmed to 23 players by the May 15 deadline.
